Sixth Major -Ecological Engineering

Major Definition

This major is specialized in environment engineering; it's the interaction between organisms and their environment, called ecosystems. Ecological engineering is used to design ecosystems for the mutual benefit of humans and nature. In this major, you'll design, monitor, and restore ecosystems. This can serve as a bridge between ecologists and engineers. The main focus of ecologist engineers is either the maintenance or the construction of artificial ecosystems. The second choice involves the design, construction and management of ecosystems that have value to both human and the environment.

Needs of humankind

Our world's population is growing very fast; for this reason, the needs of water, food, fiber, energy and other essentials of living are also increasing. This growth has bad effects on society: climate change, environment degradation, floods, disease etc. This also affects the water that isn't clean at all. Finding solutions is a must: an ecologist can find paradigm that reveals how to safety utilize the polluting components of unwanted residuals to grow green plants that has a great reflection on human society. It take the CO2 and give the O2 so the pollution will decrease. Another solution, is using more natural energy flows (solar-based); the engineer should make sure of the low maintenance when done correctly.
